Rachel Wiley has been a huge inspiration in my life. She's known for her poetry, which happens to cover issues on race, the LGBT Community, and the perspective of a fat girl.
I would defintley recommend people to take a look at some of her work.
The attached video is Rachel Wiley reciting her piece "The Fat Joke"
The Fat Joke covers how fat girls are treated like a joke in society from when we go to the doctorsoffice, from when we try to express our confidence, etc).
When watching this, it honestly brought me to tears. I've never related to something as much as I related to her words. I'm extremely thankful that she was able to share her words with the world and that I was able to finally see someone else feel that way that I do.
When she talked about visiting the doctors, it honestly hit close to home. Growing up, I developed a fear of going to the doctors office. Whenever I went to the doctors office, my doctor would make sure to make me feel like garbage about my weight. If I had the flu, she'd bring my weight into the mix. If I had strp throat, she'd bring my weight into the mix. If I had pinkeye, she brought my weight into the mix. It came to the point where I begged my mom to reschedule my doctor's appointment. I would cry to my mom saying, "Please mom, reschedule it for next month. I can lose 20 pounds by next month and make my doctor happy!"
I can sit here and try to express how I feel, but don't think it will leave an impact like Rachel's poem did. Please take a look at the video, I promise you won't regret it.
